FINANCE | TV3 Owner Acquires Vue Cinemas |
From January 1st 2011, several changes will be introduced into the Eurimages Regulations for Co-Production Support. These include a requirement to have 50% of funding in place for projects by the submission deadline and will also mean that submitters will have to include a digital master copy of their project for cinema release and the option of resubmitting previously withdrawn projects is now allowed.

BROADCAST | RTÉ Claims Irish Rights to 'Camelot'

RTÉ has secured the Irish broadcasting rights for 'Camelot'. The 10 x one hour series will premiere in the U.S. on Starz in the Spring of 2011 and will thereafter broadcast on RTÉ Two. Filming is to wrap this month on the Wicklow-based production with Canadian director, Michelle MacLaren taking on the director's role for the final two weeks of filming

AWARDS | BIFA Honours Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson is to the recipient of this year's British Independent Film Awards' Variety Award. The Irish actor will receive the award on December 5th in London's Old Billingsgate where the 13th BIFA ceremony will take place. Liam joins a prestigious list of previous award recipients.

DIGITAL | Public Views Invited on RTÉ Digital Proposal

Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has announced that he is seeking the views of the public on a range of new channels proposed by RTÉ for transmission on digital television. Members of the public will have until the 10th of December 2010 to submit their views on the inclusion of RTÉ 2, RTÉ News and RTÉ Plus amongst others on the free-to-air service. more |

PRODUCTION | Drama Scripts Wanted at BBC NI

BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen are currently inviting applications from script writers for TV dramas. The groups will select two scripts for production, each with a budget of £150,000. They will be produced by a local production company and broadcast at Primetime on BBC One Northern Ireland in 2012. The deadline for scripts is February 14th, 2011.more |

FINANCE | UTV Sees Rise in Revenue

UTV Media plc today, November 18th, released an interim management statement covering the group's current financial year between January 1st and October 31st which has found that the group saw an overall revenue increase of 9% compared to the same period last year. The figures see television advertising revenue for the group rise but saw new media revenue decline.more |

INDUSTRY | Consultation Invited on New MEDIA Programme |
Funding for the MEDIA Programme is secure until the end of 2013. The future of the MEDIA Programme after this needs to be decided and, to that effect, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the future of EU funding for the audiovisual sector after 2013. The deadline for public contributions to the consultation is Tuesday, November 30th. more |
ACTORS | Stephen Fry Learns Irish for 'Ros na Rún' |
Filming will take place in early December on the 'Ros na Rún' set of a special episode featuring Stephen Fry. The actor, comedian and presenter is currently shooting a new BBC TV series on minority languages called 'Planet Word' and was invited to appear in 'Ros na Rún' during a visit to Connemara where he was exploring the origins of the Irish language. more |
DISTRIBUTION | Limited Release Plans Laid for 'The Pipe' |
'The Pipe’ will receive a limited national theatrical release on Friday, December 3rd. The feature documentary examines the protest by Irish farmers and fisherman against Shell Oil’s decision to build a high pressure pipe for the transportation of raw gas through the town of Rossport to an inland refinery. It will screen in various locations around the country such as Galway, Dublin, Cork, Castlebar and Dungarvan amongst others. more |
