PRODUCTION | 'Jack Taylor' Production Returns to Galway

Cameras will start to roll on November 8th of the five week Irish shoot of a second and third installment of Magma Production's 'Jack Taylor' series. Both installments will shoot on RED on location in Galway, followed by a two week shoot in Germany. The production will see the return of Iain Glen (Resident Evil) as Private Investigator, Jack Taylor and Killian Scott (Love/Hate) as his enthusiastic sidekick, Cody. more
ACTORS | 'The Hobbit' Dwarfed by Irish Talent

Northern Irish actor, James Nesbitt (Outcast, Cold Feet) and Dubliner Aidan Turner (Being Human, The Clinic) have joined the ensemble cast of upcoming epic films, 'The Hobbit'. James Nesbitt, a BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee and IFTA winning actor will play Bofur, a disarmingly forthright, funny and occasionally brave Dwarf in the two features; whilst Aidan Turner will play a young dwarf called Kili. more

The broadcaster is interested in new ideas for programming which are similar to programmes such as last year's 'Fáilte Towers' and 'Charity You're a Star' which feature a live element, and which facilitate some form of audience interaction or participation. more

Communications Minister Eamon Ryan announced on Friday 29 October that the RTE Digital Terrestrial Television service is now available to 90% of the Irish population, and revealed the Digital Television service has launched from 24 sites around the country on a trial basis. more

INTERVIEW | Hannigan Chats about Cork Film Fest 2010
The 55th Corona Cork Film Festival, Ireland's oldest film festival will take place between November 7th and 14th this year and will, in that time, screen 300 films over eight days. As previously reported the event will open with the screening of Mark Romanek's 'Never Let Me Go' and will close with Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere' whilst international and Irish features, documentaries and shorts will all feature in between the two. We talked with festival director, Mick Hannigan about this year's line-up and the evolution of the Cork Film Festival. more

Pulse College student, Eabha Hennessy has been announced as one of the recipients of this year's City and Guilds Bursary. Each year, eight different countries are selected where the bursaries will be made available - with Pulse College the chosen institution for Ireland in 2010.more
EVENTS | Benefit Gig Remembers Donal Gilligan
Irish cinematographer Donal Gilligan passed away on Sunday, September 19th. Aged just 46, the two-time IFTA nominee suffered a sudden heart attack. Held in high esteem amongst his friends and colleagues within the Irish film and television industry Donal's funeral was attended by 1,200 people. A benefit gig has now been organised for Donal's wife, Charlotte and three young children.more
TRAINING | Filmbase Hosts Hollywood Screenwriting Workshop
In Hollywood, thousands of scripts land on the desks of producers, agents, actors and studio executives every day. In a bid to giving Irish scriptwriters an edge, Filmbase have organised a workshop with experienced story analyst/editor James Bartlett. James will talk about the business of script reading, the differences between the US and UK film industries, and the ways to break into the US market. The workshop will take place on November 19th. more
REP BODIES | BAI Invites Strategy Statement Consultation
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has published a draft version of its Strategy Statement 2011-2013 for public consultation. This document outlines the proposed mission, vision and values of the BAI and goals the group hopes to achieve. The deadline for receipt of responses is Monday, November 29th. more
