FESTIVALS | Cork Opening and Closing Films Announced
|
The 55th Corona Cork Film Festival will take place from Sunday, November 7th to 14th. Recognised as Ireland's oldest film festival, the event will open with the screening of Mark Romanek's 'Never Let Me Go' and will close with Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere'. Finally 'Dreaming the Quiet Man' will become the first doc to receive a gala screening at the festival.

AWARDS | Radharc Awards Laud 'The House' and 'Tuned In'

This year's Radharc Awards saw Chairman of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, Bob Collins present the awards which included Broadcast Documentary for Marmalade Film's 'The House' and the Non-broadcast documentary prize for Wildfire Film's 'Tuned In'. The prize winners and the other highly commended projects in both categories were chosen by an industry jury chaired by production entrepreneur, Lelia Doolan.

Director Ian Power (Dental Breakdown) recently travelled to Los Angeles to meet with distributors, studios and agents as part of the Directors Finders Series programme organised by the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland (SDGI). The programme gives Irish feature directors an opportunity to screen their film to key distributors & film industry representatives in an effort to gain a US distribution deal.

TV3 has announced that journalist and presenter, Sarah Carey, will fill Colette Fitzpatrick's seat on MidWeek whilst the latter is away on maternity leave. Sarah will start her new position in late November and will continue throughout the New Year. more |

PRODUCTION | Dionne Warwick joins Pulse College Students for Peace Day |
Pulse College students were this month given the opportunity to collaborate with important music names such as Dionne Warwick, Noel Eccles and Julie Feeney in the making of their documentary, 'Peace of Music'. The doc shot in Windmilllane Studios and is set for release in November. Furthermore, Pulse College student Pulse Student, Eabha Hennessy has been announced as the recipient of the 2010 City and Guilds Bursary. more |

BROADCAST| 'Na Cloigne' Heads Up TG4 Halloween Line-Up |
A feature length adaptation of ROSG's 'Na Cloigne' will broadcast on TG4 on Monday, November 1st as a Halloween special. The supernatural murder mystery series is directed by Robert Quinn (Primeval) and produced by Ciaran O Cofaigh (Graveyard Clay). more |

Colin McIvor's feature, 'Cup Cake' has been awarded the Flickers North County Film Festival prize for the Best Feature Grand Prix whilst fellow Northern Irish project 'Paradiso' will have its US premiere when it screens at the Petaluma International Film Festival. 'Today is Better than Two Tomorrows' will screen at Luang Prabang, Laos' first major film festival. Furthermore the European Documentary Network is accepting online pitching submissions of art documentaries. more |
