Invited to watch the filming of Irish/German co-production, 'Superhero', IFTN today journeyed to Dun Laoughaire's West Pier to catch a preview the film's final scene and to chat with the feature's cast and crew. Between takes we spoke with Irish director Ian Fitzgibbon (Perrier's Bounty), lead actor Thomas Sangster (Nowhere Boy), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Irish co-producer Michael Garland (Spin the Bottle) and German co-producer Philipp Kreuzer (Short Cut to Hollywood). more
INTERVIEW | Karl Golden Spills His 'Pelican Blood'

The Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) will host an exclusive screening of Ecosse Films' 'Pelican Blood' on Thursday, October 21st. Academy Members are the first audience in Ireland to view the film, which is the latest from Dublin-born director Karl Golden (The Honeymoners, Belonging to Laura). The director will attend the screening and, alongside 'Pelican Blood' producer John McDonnell (Zonad), will participate in an informative Q&A session with the Academy. more
BROADCAST | Bruckheimer will 'Take the Money' from Wild Rover

Emmy-winning US producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, (Pirates of the Caribbean, CSI) is currently adapting a version of a format created by Belfast production company, Wild Rover Productions. 'Take the Money and Run' is a new series created by Wild Rover's Philip Morrow (Secret Fortune), Matthew Worthy (Scratch and Sniff's Den of Doom) and Kieran Doherty (writer, Sesame Tree) that is now set for transmission on America's ABC. more
PRODUCTION | Neil Delamere Explores his Viking Roots

Mind the Gap Films are currently in pre-production with a BAI and RTÉ funded series, 'The Only Viking in the Village' which will see comedian, Neil Delamere (The Panel, Republic of Telly) explore his Viking roots. The as yet untitled series is expected to shoot next Summer and will be produced by Mind the Gap's Anne Heffernan (Ireland - Dig It!) and executive produced by Bernadine Carraher (Hands On). more
FINANCE | Film4 Fund Increase Open to Irish Producers

It has been announced that Channel 4 is to boost Film4's annual budget to £15m over the next five years. The move will mark a 50% increase on Film4's current budget and submission ideas for Film 4 features will be open to Irish applicants. more

FESTIVALS | Rome Fest Picks Four Irish Features
The International Rome Film Festival runs from the 28th of October until the 5th of November 2010. This year three Irish projects have been selected to screen at the event including Paul Fraser's 'My Brothers', Ger Leonard's 'Five Day Shelter' and Ian Power's 'The Runway'. We also talk to Stephen Burke whose new feature, 'Objects of Interest' will take part in the New Cinema Network event and will compete for a €30,000 Eurimages Co-Production Development Award. more
BROADCAST | Broadcast Journalist Jim Dougal Dies Age 65
Belfast-born journalist, Jim Dougal passed away on Friday, October 15th following a long battle with cancer. Mr Dougal, aged 65, worked in RTÉ as the broadcaster's Northern Editor from 1979 until 1991 when he joined BBC Northern Ireland as the group's political correspondent. At the time of his death he had just finished making a programme about the life and work of Margaret Thatcher and was involved in the area of media training in Northern Ireland. more

DIGITAL | Ireland Placed 13th in Broadband Leadership Study
Monday, October 18th saw Communications Minister, Eamon Ryan welcome Cisco's third annual broadband study results which place Ireland 13th of 72 countries worldwide for broadband leadership. Ireland has moved up 3 places from its place at 16 in last year's study. more
FINANCE | Film Board Funding Deadline Extended
The next Irish Film Board production funding meeting will be held on Thursday, December 2nd. This meeting will be the last of its kind in 2010 and the group has announced that, as a result, the closing date for receipt of applications has now been extended until Friday, November 12th 2010 to allow additional time for submissions. more
TRAINING | Ken Wardrop Launches DARE2BDRINKAWARE
Last week saw IFTA winning 'His & Hers' director, Ken Wardrop launching the 2010/2011 DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition in the Irish Multiplex Cinema in Dun Laoghaire. DARE2BDRINKAWARE - now in its fourth year - is a competition for film and multimedia students, organised by The Digital Hub and sponsored by drinkaware.ie. more

Colin McIvor's feature, 'Cup Cake' has been awarded the Flickers North County Film Festival prize for the Best Feature Grand Prix whilst fellow Northern Irish project 'Paradiso' will have its US premiere when it screens at the Petaluma International Film Festival. 'Today is Better than Two Tomorrows' will screen at Luang Prabang, Laos' first major film festival. Furthermore the European Documentary Network is accepting online pitching submissions of art documentaries. more
