FESTIVALS | Rome Fest Picks Four Irish Features
|
The International Rome Film Festival runs from the 28th of October until the 5th of November 2010. This year three Irish projects have been selected to screen at the event including Paul Fraser's 'My Brothers', Ger Leonard's 'Five Day Shelter' and Ian Power's 'The Runway'. We also talk to Stephen Burke whose new feature, 'Objects of Interest' will take part in the New Cinema Network event and will compete for a €30,000 Eurimages Co-Production Development Award.

BROADCAST | Broadcast Journalist Jim Dougal Dies Age 65
|
Belfast-born journalist, Jim Dougal passed away on Friday, October 15th following a long battle with cancer. Mr Dougal, aged 65, worked in RTÉ as the broadcaster's Northern Editor from 1979 until 1991 when he joined BBC Northern Ireland as the group's political correspondent. At the time of his death he had just finished making a programme about the life and work of Margaret Thatcher and was involved in the area of media training in Northern Ireland.

DIGITAL | Bob Geldof Reveals 'The Detail'

Below The Radar, which is part of Bob Geldof's Ten Alps Plc, are currently in the process of launching a new online service for journalism in Northern Ireland, Based very much on American newsblog sites such as the Huffington Post and Daily Beast, 'The Detail' will be a multi-media platform devoted to investigative journalism and debate on matters of significant public interest.

DIGITAL | Ireland Placed 13th in Broadband Leadership Study |
Monday, October 18th saw Communications Minister, Eamon Ryan welcome Cisco's third annual broadband study results which place Ireland 13th of 72 countries worldwide for broadband leadership. Ireland has moved up 3 places from its place at 16 in last year's study. more |

FINANCE | Film Board Funding Deadline Extended |
The next Irish Film Board production funding meeting will be held on Thursday, December 2nd. This meeting will be the last of its kind in 2010 and the group has announced that, as a result, the closing date for receipt of applications has now been extended until Friday, November 12th 2010 to allow additional time for submissions. more |

Last week saw IFTA winning 'His & Hers' director, Ken Wardrop launching the 2010/2011 DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition in the Irish Multiplex Cinema in Dun Laoghaire. Colin McIvor's feature, 'Cup Cake' has been awarded the Flickers North County Film Festival prize for the Best Feature Grand Prix whilst fellow Northern Irish project 'Paradiso' will have its US premiere when it screens at the Petaluma International Film Festival. 'Today is Better than Two Tomorrows' will screen at Luang Prabang, Laos' first major film festival. Furthermore the European Documentary Network is accepting online pitching submissions of art documentaries. more |
