PRODUCTION | 'Sweet Baby Jesus' Moves Production to UK/Italy

The producers of 'Sweet Baby Jesus' have confirmed Ireland is no longer the planned location for the feature and plan to move its shooting location to either the UK or Italy. The film's producer, Phillippe Rebboah (associate producer, The Guitar) is in London today to examine and discuss the film's alternative production plans.

BROADCAST | Straywave Stops 'Living Off Mum'

Straywave Media is currently in production with 'Young, Dumb and Living off Mum'. The new series follows a group of young adults who've been waited on hand and foot their whole lives as they move in together and learn to fend for themselves. The series will shoot in and around Dublin until the end of September.

INTERVIEW | Dave Birss Feeds the Digital Sharks |
The 2010 Kinsale Shark Awards will take place this year on the 17th and 18th of September. This year the award categories will include four new Digital categories, namely: Digital Channel, Digital Craft, Digital Fresh Thinking and Digital Worldwinner. Dave Birss has come up with the new categories and will judge the respective submissions, IFTN spoke about the challenges that this task posed.

FESTIVALS | Irish Victories at Venice Film Festival |
Jerzy Skolimowski's 'Essential Killing' has scooped the Special Jury Prize, the CinemaAvvenire Award and the Coppa Volpi prize for its lead actor, Vincent Gallo (Buffallo 66) at the 67th Venice Film Festival. The event also saw victory for Irish born filmmaker, David O'Reilly. The animator, who is now based in Germany, saw his latest piece, 'The External World' chosen as the Venice Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards.

ACTORS | Saoirse Ronan Cast in Fletcher's 'Violet and Daisy' |
Oscar nominated Irish actress, Saoirse Ronan will depart for New York on Thursday, September 16th to prepare for her role in 'Violet and Daisy', a new feature film from 'Precious' scribe and director, Geoffrey Fletcher. The film, which starts shooting on September 27th will see Saoirse play the role of Daisy alongside James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), Danny Trejo (Machete) and Alexis Bledel (Sin City). more |

PRODUCTION | Bolger, Cole and Gadon Shoot 'The Moth Diaries'

Production is currently underway on the set of the Irish/Canadian co-production, 'The Moth Diaries'. The feature film commenced principal photography in Montreal on August 31st and stars IFTA winner Sarah Bolger (The Tudors), Lily Cole (Rage), Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) and Scott Speedman (Underworld).

PRODUCTION | Cúchulainn Film & Doc In-Development

A new feature, 'Hound - The Legend of Cúchulainn' is expected to go into pre-production in the second half of 2011. The historical feature is to be directed by Paul Bolger (Happily N'Ever After) and written by Barry Devlin (A Kiss for Jed Wood). A British/Irish co-production, it is expected to have a multi-platform release in 2013 complimented with a stage show and a documentary series.
