The 35th Toronto International Film Festival is upon us once again. The browning of leaves and shortening of evenings heralds the start of the annual event which this year takes place between Thursday, September 9th and Friday the 19th. In the run up to the 2010 festival we spoke with the Irish filmmakers behind the five projects chosen to screen at the event including 'As If Am Not There's' director Juanita Wilson; 'Sensation's producer Katie Holly; 'Essential Killing's producer Andrew Lowe; 'Lapland Odyssey's producer Dominic Wright and 'The Pipe's director Risteard O'Domhnaill. more
INTERVIEW | Irish Actor Martin McCann is 'Occi Byrne'

Irish writer / director Conor McDermottroe (A Woman's Hair, Squaddie) will introduce his feature film debut to audiences on Friday, September 10th when 'Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne' receives a limited theatrical release across the country. The film portrays the life of Austin 'Occi' Byrne who is brought up in Sligo by his alcoholic mother and who suffers traumatic bullying at the hands of a local gang because he has no father. IFTN spoke with Martin McCann, the Belfast actor who takes on the central role. more

FESTIVALS | London Likes 'Sensation', 'Killing' & 'Pipe'
Two Irish feature films including Element Pictures' 'Essential Killing' and Blinder Films' 'Sensation' will screen at this year's BFI London Film Festival alongside Risteard O'Domhnaill's feature documentary feature 'The Pipe'. All three features are also screening as part of the Toronto International film festival which launches tomorrow. The BFI London Film Festival runs from the 13th to the 28th of October. more

Following on from its pilot broadcast last Christmas, Pat Shortt's hapless detective 'Mattie' will return for a new six part series starting Sunday, September 5th. Directed by Shimmy Marcus (Soul Boy) the series was shot in June 2010 around locations in Limerick. more
BROADCAST | Dave McSavage Gives Ireland 'The Savage Eye'
Shooting is underway on the set of the second series of the IFTA nominated comedy series, 'The Savage Eye'. Shooting in and around Dublin and Wicklow for the next five weeks and directed by Kieron J. Walsh (Raw), the series will see the return of Dave McSavage (Dental Breakdown) alongside his co-writer John Colleary (Touching People) and his fellow impressionists Pat McDonnell (Father Ted) and Dermot McMurrow (Emily's Song). more

A final evaluation report on the original £12 million allocation to the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) has been published. The report's findings include significant positive impacts of the ILBF, in terms of economic and cultural outcomes, on both the independent production sector and stakeholders in Northern Ireland, since its creation in 2005. more

Eddie Hobbs (Rip off Republic) and Keelin Shanley (Prime Time) will look to fight for Irish consumers' rights in 'The Consumer Show' starting this Monday, September 6th at 8.30pm.
