PRODUCTION | BAI Awards TV funds of €7 million

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced the latest funding decisions of Sound & Vision II - the Broadcasting Funding Scheme. Grants totaling €7 million approximately have been awarded, in principle, to support the production of 38 television projects - all exploring the themes of Irish Culture, Heritage and Experience. more
PRODUCTION | 'La Mula' Finished by Sébastien Grousset
La Mula
The saga of the troubled production of 'La Mula' continues with the news that director Sébastien Grousset has concluded shooting of the film following the departure of director Michael Radford (The Merchant of Venice) from the film's set in November of last year. more
ANIMATION | Brown Bag Producing Disney's 'Doc McStuffins'

Brown Bag Films have begun production on 'Doc McStuffins', a new animated series for preschoolers that will premiere on the newly branded Disney Junior channels. more

PRODUCTION | Audiences to Explore 'Terry Wogan's Ireland'
Native Limerick presenter and radio broadcaster, Terry Wogan is currently in Ireland filming 'Terry Wogan's Ireland', a two part documentary series being produced by Presentable Productions for the BBC. The programmes will look at the veteran TV personality's early years and what he thinks it mean to be Irish in the 21st century. more
FESTIVALS | Galway Gives 'A Kiss for Jed Wood'
A late entry for the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh, Maurice Linnane's 'A Kiss for Jed Wood' is to receive its first public screening at this year's Galway Film Fleadh on Friday, July 9th. The film stars Mark O'Halloran (Adam and Paul), Jayne Wisener (Sweeney Todd) and Lee Arenberg (Pirates of the Caribbean). more

AWARDS | Oscar Invites for Ronan, O'Connell, Baneham & Bono
America's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended membership invitations to 135 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, animator Darragh O'Connell and visual effects artist Richard Baneham are among those honoured with said invitations. more
INTERVIEW | Ross Whitaker Introduces his First Film Ireland
Filmmaker and newly appointed Film Ireland commissioning editor, Ross Whitaker has enjoyed much recent success which includes seeing his short documentary 'Bye Bye Now' scoop the audience award at the recent Silver Docs festival and having his first issue printed for distribution on July 6th. IFTN caught up with Ross to talk American audiences, driving around Ireland in search of phone box stories and bringing attention back to Film Ireland's regular features. more

Dearbhla Walsh's latest project, 'The Silence' will start a four night consecutive run on BBC on Monday, July 12th. The series, which filmed in Ireland earlier this year, stars IFTA winner Dervla Kirwan (Ondine) and Genevieve Barr in her acting debut. more

Niall Cogley is soon to exit his position of CEO of Setanta Sports to undertake a new undisclosed venture. The position will be filled in the interim by Setanta's co-founder Michael O'Rourke whilst a permanent replacement is sought. more
DISTRIBUTION | 'His & Hers' Enjoys Box Office Success
'His & Hers' which was released on Firday, June 18, has enjoyed box office takings of close to €70,000. This achievement, paired with excellent national and international reviews, has resulted in distributor Element Pictures Distribution increasing print numbers with the film now showing in 10 cinemas across the country. more
