IFTA Lifetime Award for John Boorman
Irish Minister of State, Martin Mansergh has announced that celebrated director, producer and writer, John Boorman, is to be honoured with the IFTA 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award. more
Soderbergh Confirms Irish 'Knockout'
'Knockout', a new feature film to be directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Thirteen, Erin Brockovich) will start a three week shoot in and around Dublin and Wicklow next month. The film which was written specifically for Dublin will feature an A-list cast including Ewan McGregor (The Men Who Stare at Goats), and IFTA nominee, Michael Fassbender (Fish Tank). more
Keith Duffy & Peter Kay Feel O'Carroll's 'Force'
'National Task Force', a new feature film to be directed by and starring Irish comedian, director and actor, Brendan O'Carroll (Agnes Browne) is expected to start pre-production this April. Keith Duffy (Coronation Street) and comedian Peter Kay are also attached to the project. more
BAFTA Nods for Irish Female Talent
The 2010 BAFTA nominees were announced today, Thursday, January 21st and Irish female acting talent has made the shortlist - IFTA nominees Saoirse Ronan, in the category of Leading Actress for her role in Peter Jackson's 'The Lovely Bones', and Anne Marie Duff in the category of Supporting Actress for 'Nowhere Boy'. more
'Corduroy' In Competition at Berlin Film Festival
'Corduroy', a new short film from Hugh O'Conor (Guilty of Love) has been selected to screen in competition at the 60th Berlinale Film Festival next month. The short will screen as part of the Generation 14 Plus competition along with 11 other shorts including filmmaker Spike Jonze's (Where the Wild Things Are) most recent short film, 'I'm Here'. more

European Parliament Shoot Wraps at Studio Solas

Magnolia Nets US Rights to 'Ondine'
The IFTA nominated film 'Ondine' has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Magnolia Pictures. 'Ondine' was written and helmed by Neil Jordan (A Film With Me In It) and stars IFTA nominated actors Colin Farrell (In Bruges), Stephen Rea (Nothing Personal) and Alicja Bachleda. more
Tony Herbert joins 'Absinthe Drinkers'
'Speed Dating' actor, writer and director Tony Herbert has joined the cast of 'The Absinthe Drinkers'. The film stars Alicja Bachleda (Ondine), Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction), John Hurt (V for Vendetta) and Peter Facinelli (Twilight) and tells the story of a talented young female painter whose recognition is usurped by the prejudices of the male-dominated art scene of 19th century Paris and Florence. more

Brian Lally's award winning debut feature film '8.5 Hours' will receive a nationwide release on Friday, January 29th. more
TG4 Finds 'The Hamely Tongue'
Irish language activist, Deaglán Ó Mocháin's directs a new one-hour documentary, 'The Hamely Tongue - Cultúr Ceilte' (Hidden Culture) which broadcasts on TG4 on Wednesday 20th January. The documentary argues for a more nuanced perspective on Ulster Scots than is currently the case. more
Galway Film Centre Calls for Short Films
The Galway Film Centre is currently inviting applications for the 2010 RTÉ/GFC Short Film Award. The award will be given to the best original script for a short drama. more
