Break Out Pictures has released the teaser trailer of Eva Birthistle’s directorial feature debut Kathleen is Here ahead of its release in Irish cinemas later this year.
The film, which premieres this weekend at Galway Film Fleadh, and stars Hazel Doupe, Clare Dunne, Peter Coonan, Aaron Monaghan, and Toni O’Rourke.
Kathleen is Here follows Kathleen (Hazel Doupe), 18 and fresh out of foster care. Her departure coincides with the death of her biological mother and so she returns to her hometown to take ownership of her mother’s house. She gets a job and even a friend; but the emptiness of Kathleen’s life cannot be filled by social media and reality shows. Alone and desperate for a mother figure, she sets out on a destructive path to find one.
Birthistle, who wrote and directed the film, is a three-time IFTA winning actress, and was most recently nominated for her role in Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters. Claire McCaughley (Handsome Devil) produced the film, with Eva Birthistle and Rebecca O’Flanagan as executive producers.
Kathleen is Here screens at Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday, 13th July at 7pm in Town Hall Theatre. The Galway Film Fleadh continues until Sunday. Kathleen is Here releases in Irish cinemas later this year.
