‘Intermission’ screenwriter Mark O’Rowe’s latest feature ‘Broken’ has been nominated for a European Film Academy Discovery Award.
Rufus Norris directed from O’Rowe’s script in what is Norris’s feature film directorial debut. Norris has made a name for himself directing theatre in Britain since 2001. His most notable works include ‘Afore Night Came’, ‘Festen’ and ‘Death and the King’s Horseman’.
The EFA Discovery Award is presented annually as part of the European Film Awards to a young and upcoming director for a first full-length feature film.
Irish actor Cillian Murphy stars alongside ‘Lie To Me’ actor Tim Roth and Rory Kinnear, who recently filmed BBC drama ‘Loving Miss Hatto’ in Ireland.
‘Broken’ recently picked up the Grand Prix prize at the Odessa International Film Festival. It is up against UK production ‘10 Timer Til Paradis’; The Netherlands’ ‘Kauwboy’; Russia’s ‘Twilight Portrait’ and Germany’s ‘Die Vermissten’ at the EFA Awards.
The awards will take place December 1 in Malta, where Michael Fassbender’s ‘Shame’ is up for the People’s Choice Award and Darren Thornton’s ‘Two Hearts’ is nominated in the short film category.
