Sea
Ireland is linked to Britain and Europe by a number of car-ferry routes. The main ports of entry are Cork, Dublin and Rosslare. County Wexford is a convenient location for access to the Dublin, Dun Laoghaire and Rosslare car ferry ports. Rosslare Harbour, situated in the very south-east of the county, is Ireland's Europort and provides direct access to the U.K. and Continental Europe through the ports of Fishguard and Pembroke Dock in the U.K. and through Cherbourg and Le Harve in France.

Airports
Dublin Airport is situated approximately 6 miles outside the city centre. It is capable of catering for all major trans-Atlantic and world-wide jet aircraft, and is at present undergoing a major re-development. RURAL
Wicklow Mountains
This mountain range contains some of the most beautiful sites in Ireland. Its highest peak is at Lugnaquilla and its most distinctive pinnacle is the Sugar Loaf. The area can be reached in under an hour from Dublin. There are several walking trails within the wilderness of the range.
Military Road
Built in the early 19th century to make the mountains more navigable and eliminate the Irish rebels, this is a thin winding road that passes through the hills, glens and boglands of the area.
Wicklow Way
A long distance trail passing through Glencree, Glendalough, Enniskerry and Aghvannagh.
Vale of Avoca
This beautiful valley was made famous in the poetry of Thomas Moore and culminates at The Meeting of the Waters, the point where the Avonmore and Avonbeg rivers join.
Avondale Forest Park
Avondale estate houses a forest school and an outstanding arboretum. There are some nice walks by the Avonmore river.
Powerscourt Gardens
These are the finest gardens in Ireland and are located at the base of the Sugarloaf Mountain. They contain the Bamberg Gate, an Italian and Japanese Garden, Pet Cemetery, Triton Lake and a Dolphin Pond.
Sally Gap
A pass in the Wicklow Mountains surrounded by bleak bogland and random streams.
Mount Usher Gardens , Ashford
Designed in 1868 by Edward Walpole, these romantic gardens are situated by the Vartry river. Rare trees, shrubs and flowers grow here and the garden also contains interesting, miniature suspension bridges.
Kilmacurragh, Rathdrum
This verdant arboretum boasts beautiful conifers set amongst water.
Glenmalure and the Glen of Imaal
An area of barren glens, overlooked by the peak at Lugnaquilla and now used as an army firing range. This area was the site of battles in the 1798 Rebellion.
COASTAL
Coastline
The Wicklow coastline is rugged in places, with some good sandy beaches and spectacular viewpoints.
Glenmacnass Waterfall
Located near the Sally Gap, this spectacular waterfall cascades into a deep glen.
Powerscourt Waterfall
This is Ireland’s highest waterfall (400ft) produced by the Dargle river over a granite escarpment. It is located 4 miles from the Powerscourt Gardens.
Lough Tay
Situated within the Guinness Estate but open to the public Lough Tay provides a spectacular viewpoint from the surrounding hills. It was a location for John Boorman’s “Excalibur”. The nearby Lough Dan is surrounded by woodlands.
Blessington Lakes
Blessington lakes, including the Poulaphouca Resevoir, cover 5000 acres and are popular for water sports, although very dangerous in parts for swimming.
Brittas Bay
A 3 mile stretch of beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches close to the tiny country village of Redcross. There are also fine beaches at Bray and Wicklow Town.
Wicklow Head
A stunning walk takes you around Wicklow Head, with views of the mountains and the sea.
HISTORICAL
Avondale House
This Georgian Mansion houses a museum dedicated to Charles Stewart Parnell and the fight for Home Rule.
Powerscourt House
This Palladian Mansion built on the site of a Norman Castle in 1731 was almost destroyed by fire in 1974. The process of restoring the house to its former glory has begun.
Russborough House, Blessington.
Designed by Richard Castle, also the architect of Powerscourt, this mansion has survived completely and is set in beautiful wooded gardens. The interior is stunning with beautiful Italian stucco decoration in the library, saloon and music room. Other features include tapestries, ornate fireplaces, impressive doorways and of course the Beit Art Collection including works by Goya, Rubens and Vermeer.
Kilruddy House, Bray.
Remodelled in the 19th century in an Elizabethan Revival style, this 1651 house contains some fine stucco decoration. Its French Classical gardens are precisely designed around a long pond.
Dwyer McAllister Cottage, Derrynamuck
A picturesque traditional white washed cottage built with stone from the surrounding Wicklow countryside.

URBAN
Arklow
A seaside resort town with a long tradition in seafaring and boat building. Situated on the River Avoca, Arklow boasts a large harbour and sandy beaches to the north and south of the town.
Avoca
Situated in a picturesque valley, Avoca is the location of the BBC TV series Ballykissangel. The scenic village is surrounded by a landscape of mountains, forests and rivers. Two miles north of Avoca beneath the turreted Castle Howard, is the famous 'Meetings of the Waters' where the Avonmore and Avonbeg Rivers meet.
Bray
The longest established seaside town in the country, Bray has a safe beach over a mile long fronted by a spacious esplanade. The coastline is dominated by Bray Head, which rises steeply (241m) above the sea, affording dramatic views of the surrounding landscape of mountains, sea and lowlands.
Enniskerry
A pretty estate village lying in the beautiful wooded glen of the Glencullen River, and four miles away from the spectacular Powerscourt Waterfall. The clock tower in the centre of the village is an attractive feature.
Glendalough
The most spectacular glen in Wicklow, famous for its 10th century round tower, old stone churches, monastic settlements and many other ruins around the valley's lakes.
Roundwood and Sallygap
Roundwood is the highest village in Ireland, 238m above sea level and surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in the country including the nearby Vartry Reservoir. The neighbouring area of Sallygap is located between the Kippure and Djouce Mountains.
Wicklow Town
A seaside resort that is also the county town, Wicklow stands on the lower slopes of Ballyguile Hill, overlooking a wide bay. Beaches include the North Beach and the famous Silver Strand.
Aughrim
A small village (population 700) straddling the Aughrim River. Aughrim is a previous winner of the award for the tidiest village in County Wicklow and its main street consists of a row of charming granite terraced houses.
Baltinglass
Situated in the very heart of West Wicklow, this country town is built on the banks of the River Slaney. The town is a designated ' Heritage Town'. Bronze Age burial chambers (5,000 years old) have been excavated on the Pinnacle, a 1,258 ft high hill to the east of the town. Baltinglass Abbey, and its pyramid-style granite Mausoleum, is situated to the north of the town.
Blessington
The town of Blessington was built in 1667 but has changed dramatically since the planned flooding of the Liffey Valley in 1940 to form the Blessington Lakes which now cover an area of over 5000 acres.
Tinahealy
A market town in the valley of the Derry River, the old markethouse occupies the centre of the town square. The 1843 Courthouse has been beautifully restored in recent years.
