Jim Jarmusch’s latest project Father Mother Sister Brother, starring Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, and Tom Waits, has wrapped filming. The film is a triptych with the ‘Mother’ section of the film set in Dublin. Blanchett was spotted filming in Stoneybatter earlier this year.

Jim Jarmusch’s latest project has wrapped production in Paris, following filming in Dublin and West Milford, New Jersey. Cate Blanchett (Tár), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), and Charlotte Rampling (Dune: Part Two), were spotted filming in Stoneybatter in January 2024, and are joined in the film by recently announced cast members Adam Driver (Megalopolis), Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Tom Waits (Down by Law), Indya Moore (Pose) and Luka Sabbat (The Dead Don’t Die).

Father Mother Sister Brother is a triptych, following three separate stories set in different countries and revolving around relationships between adult children, their distant parents and each other. The first part, ‘Father’, is set in the northeastern US, ‘Mother’ is set in Dublin, and ‘Sister Brother’ is set in Paris. The film is described as a “comedy interwoven with threads of melancholy”.

Richard Bolger and Conor Barry of Irish production company Hail Mary Pictures co-produced the film. Father Mother Sister Brother was supported by Screen Ireland and received equity financing from Cinema Inutile.

While filming in Dublin, Jarmusch gave a Screen Ireland Industry Masterclass in the IFI, hosted by Black ‘47 director Lance Daly. The talk covered Jarmusch’s approach to writing, directing, and making music, but did not cover the filming of Father, Mother, Sister, Brother.

The film marks Blanchett’s first time shooting a film in Ireland since 2003’s Veronica Guerin, directed by Joel Schumacher. Co-star Krieps is also set to star in Jim Sheridan’s upcoming film Re-Creation, a docudrama centered around the murder of French film and TV producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996.

Producers on Father, Mother, Sister, Brother include Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan and Attila Yücer. The film is produced and presented by Saint Laurent Prods., led by the fashion house’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello, MUBI and the Apartment (a Fremantle company) along with Jarmusch’s banner Badjetlag and Gillibert’s CG Cinema.

Distributors Weltkino (Germany) and Les Films du Losanges (France) have pre-bought the film. The Match Factory will handle international sales, and Gersh will represent North American rights.

Post-production has begun in New York, and the film is expected to be finished later this year.
