Virgin Media News is seeking freelance sports reporters to contribute to our 12.30, 5.30 and 8pm bulletins on Virgin Media One. Successful candidates will attend sports markings and produce packages to be broadcast on Virgin Media News as well as monitoring the Sports Wires to produce international sports content in-house.

Main tasks of the role:

• Produce sports stories for Virgin Media News bulletins
• Attend sports markings and produce packages to be broadcast on air
• Monitor Sports Wire feeds to bring our viewers up to date international sports content
• Use social media platforms to promote Virgin Media News sports content
• Be an authority for sports news on Virgin Media News
• Support the news gathering operation by sourcing exclusive stories
• Bring forward ideas for future coverage
• Be a brand ambassador for Virgin Media News

The person doing this role must have:

• A minimum of four years’ experience in sports broadcasting
• Credible and established on-air experience in live broadcasting
• Experience in covering football, GAA and rugby
• First class reporting skills
• A good news sense and eye for a story
• The ability to self-edit using Avid software
• A comprehensive contacts book and network in the area of sport
• An authoritative and engaging on-air presence
• A thorough knowledge of all legal issues around broadcasting
• Enthusiasm and energy
• Understanding of – and engagement with – digital platforms
• A robust work ethic that understands the need for flexibility
• Strong interpersonal skills
