Call for Submissions: RTÉjr Christmas Special
04 Jul 2018 : Nathan Griffin
RTÉ has made a call for proposals for a children’s Christmas Special set to be commissioned later this year.

RTÉ commissioners are particularly interested in applications with innovative production models, original onscreen style and diverse approaches to storytelling in concepts, which explore or reflect the lives of youngsters growing up in Ireland today.

Co-productions on proposals that will contain a strong Irish component and provide the broadcasters audience with good value-for-money content are particularly welcome. Given the profile of RTÉ’s audience, every proposal should have an original complementary cross-platform component or dimension.

However, RTÉ is unlikely to commission a subject area already in the broadcast schedule, so the broadcaster recommends that applicants familiarise themselves with the stations output before finalising their idea or proposal.

The show will be a 1 x 26' Special with a budget of €165,000 going towards the successful project. As part of this commission RTÉ is also looking for 20 x 1' links, which will begin to play out from the beginning of December and build towards the main event at the end of December. The aim is that these links will play out Cross Platform.

Proposed projects are asked to have a ‘broad appeal’, while also being ‘inclusive, heart-warming, interactive, full of great songs and dancing and above all makes our live audience laugh out loud.’ RTÉ also recommends that submitted proposals for the show should include a number of RTÉjr's most popular characters/presenters, both human & puppet, plus introduce a few new faces.

Applicants are asked to submit their proposals - here – with the heading ‘Young Peoples - Christmas Special & Links’.

Deadline for Submission is: 12pm - Friday, July 13th

Acting Controller, RTÉjr and Group Head, RTÉ Children's Colm O'Callaghan and Executive Producer, Animation & Independent Commissioning, Pauline MacNamara will oversee the proposals application process.
