Irish Director Barry Dignam’s Dream Kitchen is on a dream run. Just accepted for competition at the Berlin Film Festival in the short film section, it is also on tender hooks as it awaits the announcement of the Oscar nominations for short film on February 15th.
It is a clear European favourite having already claimed first prize at the 1999 Galway Film Fleadh and director Barry Dignam is trying hard to hide his pride in his work. “It sounds corny but I do feel that I have been tremendously lucky during the past year. Things just seemed to fall into place at the right time,” he explained.
Attending in competition at the Berlin Film Festival is undoubtedly a huge achievement for the director. Following his self proclaimed run of good luck he will be in a good position to save on travel costs when he heads for Berlin. The previous week he will have been attending the equally prestigious Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival where he is in competition as Producer on the Audrey O’Reilly directed short, In Loving Memory.
Clearly a great start to what could add up to an even greater year, all eyes will undoubtedly fall on the young director next month.
IFTN will feature an in-depth interview with Barry Dignam and Audrey O’Reilly here next week.
