RTÉ has reached an agreement with Equity and the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters' Guild that will allow them to make ‘Fair City’ available on the RTÉ Player and RTÉ One+1.
The deal means that the popular soap will be available on the new platforms from today, beginning with last night’s episode.
The deal only covers the island of Ireland and there is provision in the agreement for 21 day catch-up. The period of the current agreement is for two years.
’Fair City’ will be available on the RTÉ Player online, on mobile via iphone, on iPad and iPod Touch, plus on notebooks, PS3 and on desktops. It will also be available on RTÉ One + 1 on both Saorview and UPC.
RTÉ drama commissioning editor, Jane Gogan said: “As audiences look for new ways to view programmes RTÉ, Equity and the Irish Playwrights’ and Screenwriters’ Guild have reached agreement bringing ‘Fair City’ to the Player and RTÉ One+1. There has been immense input and imagination from all parties to the negotiations to make this work and I think we are at one in being happy to hand over to the audience.”
