Helen the daughter of the British peace envoy to Ireland, is saved from assassination by Denis O Riordan the most wanted man in Ireland. Unaware of his involvement in the war, they become friends. After many chance encounters the two fall in love. When Helen learns of his military position she informs her father and Riordan is almost caught. Riordan refuses to believe that Helen would have told on him, and unheeding warnings goes to meet her. Helen admits the truth but the two decide to remain together despite the betrayal.

This film is based on the mythical relationship between Michael Collins and Lady Lavery.
