A young farmer, Gavin, is rejected by his love, Kate, in favour of a more financially stable partner, John. The decision proves to be a poor one and years later Kate's child , Grace, finds herself, like her mother, caught between two suitors, one with and one without money. These two bachelors fight it out on the banks of the Liffey before all is happily resolved.
