Motive TV Film J1 Summer
2008-07-23 14:51 :
Filming is underway on Motive Television’s new reality series ‘Summer in the Sun – The J1’ set to air on RTÉ Two this Autumn.
The 6 x 30min observational documentary, filming from May 27th – Sept 1st, follows the adventures of three groups of students as they head off on a J1 visa to Honolulu, San Diego and Chicago. The cameras follow them as they look for accommodation, attempt to find work and have the summer of their lives in the USA.

The students are accompanied by three DV directors – with Paula Rouse filming a group of four friends in San Diego; Steven Courtney following a group of Dundalk Institute of Technology students to Honolulu and Jonathan Levy filming eight NUI Galway students’ adventures in Chicago.

“The series is one of the first series in Ireland to be shot on the new Solid State EX-1 camera,” producer Jamie D’alton told IFTN. “Every two weeks rushes are sent back to Ireland for editing. The camera will capture all the highs and lows of the J1 experience, and the final series will be a sort of Irish version of MTV’s ‘Laguna Beach’.”

Motive TV’s D’alton and Anne McLoughlin are producing, with series producer Bob Kelly. Post-production is being carried out by Piranha Bar.
