Irish actor Sarah Bolger is set to star alongside Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia) and Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) in Canadian-Irish co-production Cry From The Sea. The film is directed by Vic Sarin (Sugar), with a screenplay from Ciarán Creagh (Ann).
Set in the aftermath of World War I and the Irish Civil War, Cry from the Sea follows Seamus Óg Mac Grianna (Cooper), an Irish lighthouse keeper who has created an isolated life for himself as penance for a tragedy he feels he should have prevented. His only company and housekeeper, Maire (Bolger), enables him to remain closed off from the world while quietly waiting for him to see her. His meticulously structured routine begins to fracture when he meets Edith (Gadon), an outspoken American war widow whose desire for closure changes Seamus.
The cast also includes Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall), Keith McErlean (Kin), David Pearse (The Banshees of Inisherin), Oisín Nolan (Cocaine Bear), Francis Harkin (Rian), and Caleb Mulligan. The film is being produced by ShinAwiL, and Vancouver-based Sepia Films.
Cry from the Sea is currently filming, and set to wrap production in late October 2023. The project is supported by Telefilm Canada and Screen Ireland.
