Having made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. Rights to the newlywed drama which stars Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) and Billy Howle (Dunkirk).
Bleecker Street are expected to wait until 2018 to release the film which follows a newlywed virgin couple who run into difficultly on their honeymoon when trying to consummate their marriage. The drama, which is set in 1962, documents the couple's struggles as they navigate the challenges of their unexplored sexuality.
The film is Ian McEwan’s own adaptation of his novella 'On Chisel Beach'. The film is produced by Stephen Woolley (The Crying Game, Byzantium) and Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol, The Crying Game). The production company is Number 9 Films. It is the feature film directorial debut of Dominic Cooke who most recently directed 'The Hollow Crown' drama series.
Sean Bobbitt (Shame, Hunger, The Place beyond the Pines) is DOP; Nina Gold is casting director.
The film also features Anne Marie Duff, Emily Watson and Samuel West.
Saoirse Ronan received her first Academy Award nomination for her role in Ian McEwan’s ‘Atonement’.
