‘Loving’ Actress Ruth Negga and ‘American Honey’ Cinematographer Robbie Ryan are both nominated in the upcoming awards ceremony, which honours the best achievements in independent film, and takes place Saturday, February 25th.
Negga has been surrounded by talk of an Oscar nomination since the debut of Jeff Nichol’s feature on the true story of interracial couple Mildred and Richard Loving debuted at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
It has also been announced the ‘Love/Hate’ and ‘Warcraft star will collect the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2017.
While Ruth Negga is nominated for Best Actress, ‘Loving’ Director Nichols is also up for Best Director. In her category, Negga contends with Annette Bening (20th Century Woman), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Sasha Lane (American Honey) and Natalie Portman (Jackie).
Another title which made waves at the Cannes Film Festival by picking up the Jury Prize, and was shot by same Irish Cinematographer behind the Palm d’Or Winner ‘I, Daniel Blake’ from Ken Loach.
Robbie Ryan has also enjoyed another recent nomination for his work on ‘American Honey’, in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Craft at the upcoming British Independent Film Awards (BIFA).
In addition to Ryan’s nomination for Best Cinematography, ‘American Honey’ boasts nominations for Best Feature, Best Director (Andrea Arnold), Best Supporting Female (Riley Keough) and Best Supporting Male (Shia LaBeouf).
Ryan’s fellow nominees for Best Cinematography are Ava Berkofsky (Free In Deed), Lol Crawley (The Childhood of a Leader), Zach Kuperstein (The Eyes of My Mother) and James Laxton, (Moonlight).
