Michael Neeson, son of Oscar-nominated actor Liam Neeson, has been cast as revolutionary leader Michael Collins in Kevin McCann’s upcoming 1916 drama/thriller ‘The Rising’.
Neeson, in his first major film role, joins Irish actors Colin Morgan (who has been cast in the lead role as Freedom Fighter Sean McDermott) and David O’ Hara (who will play revolutionary leader James Connolly).
The film will be directed by Kevin McCann and written by McCann and Colin Broderick. Kevin McCann produces with the film receiving funding from the Irish Film Board and Northern Ireland Screen and being produced by Maccana Teoranta.
The film covers the events around the Easter 1916 Rising, one of Ireland’s defining historical events in the 20th Century.
Michael Neeson’s father Liam formerly played the revolutionary leader in Neil Jordan’s 1996 acclaimed biopic ‘Michael Collins’ and was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
