Principal photography has begun in Dublin on Irish director Marian Quinn’s drama Twig, which is pegged as a retelling of the Greek tragedy Antigone.
Sade Malone (Tin Star) is cast in the titular role of Twig alongside BAFTA winning and Emmy nominated actor Brían F. O’Byrne (Little Boy Blue).
According to Screen Daily, the five-week shoot is now underway on location in Dublin’s inner city, where an ancient city wall cordons off a neighbourhood, which is rife with drugs. When the local crime lord, Leon, played by O’Byrne, vows to let her brother Paulie’s body rot in the street, Twig sets out to do the right thing.
Marian Quinn’s debut feature film 32A won the Best First feature at the Galway Film Fleadh back in 2007. Speaking about the upcoming project, the writer/director told Screen: “We have an extraordinary cast, crew at the top of their game. I couldn’t be happier to be back shooting this in Dublin now.”
Twig is produced by Ruth Carter for Blue Ink Films and Tommy Weir for Janey Pictures, and supported by Screen Ireland, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, RTÉ, and Wildcard Distribution.
Wildcard has acquired the project directly from Blue Ink Films and will release Twig in Irish cinemas in 2023.
