Gréasán na Meán ‘Scéal 2 2013’ Now Open
31 Oct 2013 : By Julie Browne
A scene from 'An Gadaí' which aired on TG4
Gréasán na Meán have announced their new scheme which will give writers a chance to develop and write a 60 minute film script.

If you have some previous experience in writing for television drama and would like to develop this skill, you are asked to adapt a well know Irish language short story.

Previous schemes, Síol, Údar and Scéal 1 have had such positive results that Gréasán na Meán have decided to take a handful of scripts on to the next level in terms of their development.

The chosen writers will develop their script under the tutelage of an expert in script writing for television drama. The script development will look to produce a sixty minute script which will be ready for production.

Although no confirmations have been made at this time, it is hoped that these films will be commissioned as a television series. This scheme from Gréasán na Meán is open to talented new Irish-Speaking writers all over the country.

To apply for this scheme:

Choose a well-known Irish language short story that has been published and adapt it so as the central theme of the work is suitable for the screen and for today’s television audience. The chosen work has to be adapted to a modern story that will produce a sixty minute television drama.

• Write a page that describes the theme, characters, and gives a synopsis of the original work.

• Write a paragraph that describes why this theme would suit television and today’s television audience.

• Write one page with an outline of the adapted story, as it is intended for the screen and also the recommended approach.

Applicants should include:

• 10 pages from the sample script of the intended adaption.

• Current CV indicating media experience.

• The application form from the website is also to be filled in. Click here.

Closing time for applications is midday on Monday the 25th November.
