Short Film News: 'My Father's Son' Wraps Filming
27 Jan 2012 : By Ciara Drohan
My Father's Son
Principal photography has just ended on Dundalk director James Mulholland’s (What If?, Lose The Booze) latest short ‘My Father’s Son’. The short was written, directed and produced by Mulholland and was filmed around the Dundalk area since mid-January.

‘My Father’s Son’ tells the story of John, a teenager living in a working class housing estate with his mother and brother in a provincial Irish town. It deals with John’s life as he finds out he might have more in common with his absent violent father than he originally though. It stars local talent such as Matthew Kelly (Gurriers), Lydia Mullaney (Dilated, Guest), Sharon Skerritt, Warron Mahon and newcomer young Finn Connolly.

Executive producer for the project was Christina Martin and it is the debut film produced by new production company Cedarwood Park Productions. The film was shot on a Canon 550D. DOP for the project was James Mulholland with Tomaz Rola (Deat Waits, Gurriers) as camera operator and Ryan Dunne (What If?) assisting. The assistant director on the shoot was Kevin Brennan (Gurriers). Sean Markey (Penny Dreadful, What If?) was on sound. Gaffer for the film was Roger Ryan (Derelict, The Bedroom)

The film is currently in post production and being edited by Mulholland. It is hoped the short will be ready in time to appear at some of this year’s festivals alongside James’s other short ‘Lose The Booze’.
