IASIL, which has been flourishing since 1970, has a world-wide network with local organisations in many countries and continents, from France to Australia and everywhere in-between, will for the first time ever hold their annual conference in Glasgow University, Scotland (27-31 July).
In association with IASIL and Filmhouse, Edinburgh, a selection of contemporary Irish films will be screened including the Oscar winning ‘Once’; the black comedy featuring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell ‘In Bruges’; ‘Kings’ featuring Colm Meeney and Lance Daly’s ‘Kisses’.
A special retrospective screening of John Ford’s classic ‘The Rising Moon’ will also take place.
Also, continuing the Irish film theme will be the IFTA winning documentary ‘Waveriders’, the previously untold story of the unlikely Irish roots of the worldwide surfing phenomenon and today’s pioneers of Irish big wave surfing. The film will be shown at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre from 3-9 July, narrated by Cillian Murphy it includes ample footage of surfers attempting to ride the biggest swell ever captured in Ireland, with waves of up to fifty feet.
