The film was inspired and co-ordinated via the micro-blogging site Twitter (where the character limit per message is 140). The call "Action" went out at 8pm Sunday night from Kelly's mobile phone where 140 filmmakers simultaneously shot 140 seconds of footage to capture what it was that connects them to their home, time and place.
Kelly asked the participating film makers "What's special about your home to you? What would you miss most if you left? Try to capture that in 140 seconds."
Commenting on the project, the producer said: "It was quite thrilling to be honest, the reaction has been great, and by all accounts it was a positive experience. I received the first clip this morning by email from Romania, and it looks beautiful, I'm really happy with it and excited at the prospect of what's to come."
Included in the project were Irish filmmakers; Mairtin DeBarra (Tart), Paddy O'Shea (Penny), Jason Butler (Tufty). Among the other International filmmakers were Zach Helm (Stranger than Fiction, Mr. Magoriums Magic Imporium), Robert Zappia (Halloween H2O), Alvaro Ron (Green Zone, Life on Mars-Spanish) and Ryan Little (Saints and Soldiers, Forever Strong), along with many other award winning filmmakers.
When all 140 clips are received, Kelly will edit the footage to a feature length documentary and plans to promote the film on the film festival circuit. The film has already been invited to screen at this years Hatch Fest in Bozeman, Montana, USA in October.
