Irish/ German co-production ‘Occi vs The World’, has secured €280,000 in Eurimages funding. The feature, written and directed by Conor McDermottroe (A Woman’s Hair), will star IFTA winning actresses Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless, The Virgin Queen) and Susan Lynch (Nora, From Hell), and Irish actor Aaron Monaghan.
Eurimages, the co-production fund from the Council of Europe, signed on to support the pic at its Paris meeting which took place from December 16th-18th, 2007, and saw €4.9 million funding distributed between 15 European co-productions.
‘Occi vs The World’, produced by Dublin-based Zanzibar Films and Germany’s Florin Films, follows the tale of Occi Byrne, born in secret in London to his unmarried Irish mother, who returns to his mother’s home town in Co. Sligo, only to be greeted with hostility. Shooting is set to begin in May 2008, on location in Sligo.
Produced by Edwina Forkin, Tom Maguire and Florin Films’ Herman Florin, the film has secured funding from RTÉ, the Irish Film Board and German distribution company Kinowelt, in addition to its Eurimages cash boost.
