Lee Magiday, formerly VP of Acquisitions and Production, Europe at Focus Features, has joined Irish production company Element Films as their Head of Production with responsibility for acquiring, developing and overseeing a slate of new feature film projects.
Irish producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe run the Dublin based Element Films. Through Element they have produced a number of high profile features including Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Adam & Paul’, Pete Travis’ ‘Omagh’, Ken Loach’s ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ and Charles Sturridge's ‘Lassie’.
The company has collaborated with Jim Sheridan & Arthur Lappin’s Hell’s Kitchen International on the Irish filmed features ‘The Honeymooners’ and ‘Laws of Attraction’ and Guiney recently co-produced the Gabriel Range's Toronto Fipresci winner ‘Death Of A President’. Projects produced through Accomplice (Element’s television arm) include the RTE ratings winners ‘Pure Mule’ and ‘Bachelors Walk’.
Element also runs a division which operates as a co-producer on UK television drama. Recent and current productions include; ‘Murphy’s Law IV’ with Tiger Aspect, ‘Rough Diamond’ with World Productions, ‘Single Handed’ and ‘Baker Street Irregulars’ with RDF Media and ‘George Gently’ with Company Pictures, all for BBC. ‘Murphy’s Law V’ is set to go into production later this year.
In her role at Focus, Magiday was involved with bringing in a number of projects to the company including ‘Swimming Pool’, ‘My Summer of Love’ and ‘Hell’. Magiday will be based in London where Element have opened a new office with a view to expanding their slate of film and TV drama.
