Filming on Series Two of the IFTA-award winning comedy ‘Aifric’ is now underway. The Telegael series follows the life of a slightly older ‘Aifric’, as she attempts to cope with the onset of adolescence.
Entering its seventh week of production, ‘Aifric’ is shooting primarily at Solas Studios, Baile na hAbhainn, Co. Galway, where the first series was also filmed. The series will also shoot in various locations around Connemara. Paul Mercier returns as director of ‘Aifric’, with Micheal O’Domhnaill and John Brady producing.
Series one of ‘Aifric’ was the most watched children’s programme on TG4 in 2006, with the programme website (www.aifric.tv) receiving over 65,000 hits in the first week of broadcast last November. ‘Aifric’ picked up an IFTA for ‘Best Children’s/Young Programme’ at the 2007 awards, as well receiving award nominations at the Celtic Film Festival and the TV Now awards.
The star of the series Cliona Ni Chiosain has also received several award nominations for her portrayal of Aifric. The first episode of the new series will be broadcast in November 2007 on TG4.
