Jim Sheridan's ‘In America’ to be adapted for TV Series
21 Jul 2014 | Filmmaker Jim Sheridan is set to adapt his 2002 film 'In America' into a series for the small screen. ‘In America’, which starred Paddy Considine, Samantha Morton, Sarah Bolger, Emma Bolger and Djimon Hounsou, followed an Irish immigrant family as they tried to adjust to life in the USA with little money. Sheridan is in discussions with a leading American network network about the project, which deals with the issue of illegal immigration in the States.

RTÉ Enjoys Record-Breaking Figures for FIFA 2104 World Cup
21 Jul 2014 | Audiences in Ireland tuned into the 2014 FIFA World Cup on RTÉ in record numbers, across RTÉ Two television, RTÉ Player and RTÉ.ie. It marked the highest television audience for a World Cup Final since USA ‘94.

New Trailer for Season 2 of ‘The Fall’
18 Jul 2014 | A new trailer for the second season of hit crime drama The Fall has just been released. The new series sees Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson return as serial killer Paul Spector and DSI Stella Gibson respectively in the six-part second season which has finished shooting in Belfast. The series is due for broadcast this autumn.

TV3 announces new Documentary Unit and New Primetime Evening Show
17 Jul 2014 | A new Primetime evening show will air on TV3 in January 2015, adding over 127 hours of Irish home produced content to the schedule. A major new production team will be assembled for the new weeknight show comprising of a number of TV3 reporters and anchored by a new name, still to be revealed.
A new Public Affairs Documentary Unit will replace ‘Midweek’. 3e’s news programme ‘fyi’ is to be replaced with 60 second news bulletins throughout the day.

‘Game of Thrones’ Dominates Emmy Nominations
11 Jul 2014 | Announced yesterday, ‘Game of Thrones’, which is filmed in Northern Ireland and is now in production for its fifth series, has received a commendable 19 nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards. It beat series ‘Fargo, which got 18 nominations, and ‘American Horror Story: Coven’, with 17, to receive the most nominations for the 66th annual primetime ceremony.

Peter Coonan to star in TV3’s Feature Film ‘The Guarantee’
10 Jul 2014 | Produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3, filming of ‘The Guarantee’ will get underway in the TV3’s Sony HD Studio on 21st July. Directed by Ian Power (The Runway), the film recreates the drama surrounding the most significant political decision in modern Irish history when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system on the night of September 29, 2008. ‘The Guarantee’ tells the story of that night, and what led to it. Starting four years earlier, it charts the peak of the boom and the beginning of the bust.

RTÉ and BBC Comedy to produce ‘Comedy Showcase’ Event
10 Jul 2014 | RTÉ is cooperating with BBC Network Comedy and BBC Northern Ireland on a ‘Comedy Showcase’ Event, which will take place on 22nd September 2014 in Belfast. As part of this RTÉ will be nominating one scripted project which is a classic sitcom setup, to be performed in front of a live audience.

TV License Crackdown Approved by Cabinet
10 Jul 2014 | The Irish Times has reported that Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte has stated that TV licence evasion will now be tackled more stringently. The Cabinet has agreed to introduce a law that permits An Post to access Sky and UPC subscription data that compares licence fee payers against a list of households and businesses with cable or satellite TV services. The €160 yearly fee is collected by An Post.

Irish People are Watching More Television
04 Jul 2014 | The latest figures from TAM Ireland have revealed that Irish people spend an average of three and half hours watching television every day. This is an increase of 14 minutes per day on the figures as reported by Ipsos MBRI in 2012, the last time the survey was completed.

‘Lily's Driftwood Bay’ Gets 2nd Series
04 Jul 2014 | Nickelodeon has commissioned a second series of pre-school series ‘Lily’s Driftwood Bay’ from Belfast indie Sixteen South. A further 52 x 7 minute episodes of the series have been ordered to run next year on Nick Jr. The second season commission follows a licensing deal between Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer products (NVCP) and Sixteen South. The deal gives NVCP the licensing rights for the property within the UK and Ireland.

Tile Films documentary to be aired for American viewers
03 Jul 2014 | 60 minute documentary 'Sacred Sites: Ireland' will be aired for American viewers on the Smithsonian Channel on Monday July 7th, giving American viewers a revolutionary new insight into Ireland’s ancient sites. The documentary was produced by Tiles Films, directed and produced by multi award-winning filmmaker Stephen Rooke (Saving the Titanic, Waterways) and written by David Ryan (who also co-wrote the IFTA-winning Cromwell in Ireland).
