 IFTA Tribute for Peter O’Toole at Galway Film Fleadh
The Galway Film Fleadh, in association with the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA), will pay tribute to screen legend Peter O’Toole during the 2008 festival which takes place from the 8 – 13 July. O’Toole, whose career spans five decades, will be the focus of a special Public Interview and screen retrospective at the prestigious Irish festival. more
 ILBF Secures £6 Million Funding
The Irish Language Broadcast Fund has secured £6 million additional funding from the British Government which will see it through until 2011, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has confirmed. more

Irish actor Liam Neeson (Michael Collins, Schindler’s List) has joined James Nesbitt (Murphy’s Law, Cold Feet) in the cast of Oliver Hirschbiegel’s TV film ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’, currently shooting on location in Belfast. more

Monte-Carlo Crowns Rhys Meyers Best Actor
IFTA and Golden Globe winning actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has won the Golden Nymph for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 48th Monte-Carlo TV Festival (8 – 12 June 2008). The Cork born actor scooped the award for his portrayal of King Henry the VII in hit Showtime series ‘The Tudors’, filmed on location in Ireland. more

McQueen’s ‘Hunger’ Wins Down Under
Steve McQueen’s Northern Irish shot film ‘Hunger’, which portrays IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands final days in the Maze prison, has won the inaugural $60,000 Sydney Film Prize at the Sydney Film Festival. more
Portrush Sea Rescue Docks at UTV
‘Portrush Sea Rescue’, a 7x30min series that follows the work of the RNLI volunteers who crew the Portrush lifeboats, kicks off on UTV on Friday 20th June at 8pm. more
IFB and Germany Ink Co-production Deal
The Irish Film Board has signed a co-production agreement with North Rhine-Westphalia’s regional film fund Filmstiftung NRW which is set to promote Irish and German film and documentary co-productions. more
Frameworks Cash Boost for Irish Animations
A new four part RTÉ series ‘Sex and Sensibility’, which explores Ireland’s changing attitudes to sex over the last four decades, goes out this Thursday 12th May at 10.15pm on RTÉ One. more
Border Region Filmmakers Given ‘The Edge’
A new cross-border production award from the Louth, Newry and Mourne Film Commission entitled ‘The Edge’ will see filmmakers from border regions compete for production fund of €10,000. more
Lights Out! Host Youth Film Workshops
The Lights Out! National Film Festival for Young People is set to hold a host of workshops on topics including filmmaking, special effects makeup, animation and performance from 12th-19th July at the IFI and Filmbase. more
Jim Norton Wins Tony Award
IFTA nominated Irish actor Jim Norton (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Father Ted) has won a Tony Award for his performance in play 'The Seafarer’, written by IFTA winning screenwriter Conor McPherson (Saltwater, I Went Down). more
Seattle Win for Steph Green’s ‘New Boy’
Steph Green’s IFTA winning short ‘New Boy’ has scooped yet another accolade, this time the Special Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival, which took place from May 22nd-June 15th 2008. more
