RTÉ Announce New MD of News and Current Affairs
Following a public competition, RTÉ announced today the appointment of Jon Williams to the position of Managing Director of RTÉ News and Current Affairs. RTÉ Director-General, Dee Forbes, said: "This position attracted a strong national and international interest; clearly, RTÉ’s reputation in news and current affairs is a global one."

Interim Examiner Appointed to Irish TV
The Westport-based Irish TV encounters an 'unexpected and significant funding shortfall'.
The news comes after the announcement earlier this week that John Griffin had resigned as a director of the television company which is based in Westport, Co. Mayo.

The Irish Film Board Announces Short Stories Funding Recipients
Five teams have been selected to receive funding under the Short Stories scheme, one of three new short film schemes announced by the IFB in May of this year. Filmmakers were invited to submit applications engaging with the theme of ‘Tribes’, to create live-action or animated films between 2-5 minutes in length. Selected films will premiere in 2017.

‘A Date For Mad Mary’ Leads Irish Film London Winners
Actress Tara Lee accepted the award for Best Film for Darren Thornton's debut feature at the annual awards ceremony at the Irish embassy on Monday, November 14th.
Lee plays Jess in the Dublin-based drama, which sees 'Mad' Mary McArdle (Seana Kerslake) determined to find a date to a friend's wedding, following a brief spell in prison.

Frank Berry's ‘Michael Inside’ Finishes Principal Photography
IFTN caught up with writer/director Frank Berry to chat about his new film ‘Michael Inside’, which finishes principal photography today, after a five week shoot and, according to Frank, “one and a half years research”. It ’ tells the story of an 18 year old young man who holds a bag of drugs for a friend’s older brother, and how this action changes his life leading to arrest, pre-sentencing, and prison.

Gerard Barrett's ‘Smalltown’ launched on DVD
One of this year's breakout television series, 'Smalltown', is available to purchase online now and in stores on Friday.
The brainchild of Gerard Barrett, acclaimed director of 'Glassland'. Barret has also won the IFTA Rising Star Award at the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards in 2013 for his debut feature 'Pilgrim Hill'.

Waterford Film Festival Announce 2016 Winners
The festival celebrated its tenth edition this year, and ran from November 4th-6th at the Garter Lane Arts Centre, with competition winners and runners up revealed across best short film and script categories.
The overall winner for Best Short Film is ‘The Clockmaker’s Dream’ directed by Cashell Horgan (Paddy) and produced by Linhong Yang.
