Three Irish films and co-productions - ‘Glassland’, ‘Strangerland’ and ‘The Visit’ – have all been selected for official competition at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the world’s leading festivals for independent film.

The Irish industry was very well represented in this year’s Annie award nominations with ‘Song of the Sea’ picking up seven nominations and ‘Doc McStuffins’ and ‘Peter Rabbit’ both picking up nods in the pre-school television category both of which are produced by Brown Bag Films for Disney and Nickelodeon.

The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White, TD, has secured Government approval for the appointment of four new members of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and one reappointment to the authority.

The Slamdance Film Festival, launched as an alternative to Sundance, has unveiled its narrative and documentary competition line-ups for the 2015 festival taking place January 23rd-29th 2015. The festival, which has included showings of such notable titles as Oren Peli’s ‘Paranormal Activity’, will celebrate its 21st anniversary.

With international co-productions at the base of their filmographies, 31 players in the European film industry have been selected to represent EAVE (European AudioVisual Entrepreneurs) in their respective countries, with Irish producer Edwina Forkin announced by the EAVE network as their choice to promote EAVE in Ireland.

Animation Skillnet, Screen Training Ireland and the Irish Film Board have announced a new Traineeship Programme for the Irish Animation and VFX sectors. The announcement was made at the 2nd annual Irish VFX and Animation Summit, which took place in the Science Gallery on Saturday and Sunday 29th and 30th November..

Forthcoming channel UTV Ireland has been granted public service status and has signed numerous carriage deals.

The Belfast Film Festival have announced that submissions are now open for the short film competition of their festival, which will run from the 16th – 25th April, 2015.

The TG4 Christmas schedule has plenty to light up the holiday season with music, live sport and nostalgic documentaries.
