UNESCO Director-General, Ms Irina Bokova, has announced from Paris that Galway has been designated a UNESCO City Of Film. Under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Galway is now one of only five cities in the world to achieve this much sought-after status, joining Sydney, Australia and Galway’s twin city of Bradford in the UK as a designated City of Film.

This December, the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) has organised a number of events.

Des Whelan is an Irish camera operator with international credits including ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘A Good Day To Die Hard’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’, and Irish credits including ‘Veronica Guerin’ and ‘Into The West’, amongst many, many others.

Irish language TV drama ‘Corp isAnam’ makes its highly anticipated return to the small screen tonight. The series follows crime correspondent Cathal Mac Iarnain as he uncovers the corruption in Ireland’s crime and legal systems. The 4x1 hour series is produced by Magamedia for TG4.

The second series of highly anticipated drama ‘The Fall’ has already received rave reviews since its return. Written by Allan Cubitt and starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan, the critically acclaimed psychological drama is BBC Two’s biggest drama series.

Financing is being completed now for the animated feature ‘The Breadwinner’, based on Deborah Ellis’ bestselling novel with Kilkenny-based studio Cartoon Saloon (‘The Secret of Kells’, ‘Song of the Sea’) partnering with Canada’s Aircraft Pictures (‘Cybergeddon’, ‘Todd & The Book of Pure Evil’) to make the animated family feature.

The Belfast Film Festival have announced that submissions are now open for the short film competition of their festival, which will run from the 16th – 25th April, 2015.

RTÉ Factual is looking for ideas for one-off documentaries and short series for the autumn of 2015. They are commissioning into a number of slots from September to December for next year and RTÉ have confirmed that this is a rolling deadline.
