The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) today announced details of the latest package of funding recommendations to have been ratified by the Authority at its most recent meeting.

Having begun last Wednesday on the 14th of May and continuing until this Sunday the 25th of May, this year’s Cannes Film Festival has already seen several international distribution deals for film titles from around the globe.

Taking place from June 6 - 8, 2014, the Ford Film Hub will feature a host of award winning film directors, producers and writers such as Ben Wheatley, Whit Stillman, James Flynn, Kieron J Walsh and Laura Hastings Smith.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired British director Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or contender ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ for North American release.

The film festival takes place in Schull, Co. Cork, from Friday May 21st to Sunday 25th.

Chinese theatrical and platform rights to John Carney’s ‘Begin Again’ have been jointly acquired by Beijing Galloping Horse Film Co., Ivanhoe Pictures and Exclusive Media.

The series, which is now in its second season, is produced by Magamedia for TG4.

John Carney’s ‘Sing Street’ has been acquired for US distribution by the Weinstein Company (TWC) in a deal worth $3 million.

Cinemagic Dublin is back this June with a programme for young people aged under 12 years of age. This jam packed programme will include film screenings, workshops with both public and schools events taking place at various venues around the city.

Irish academy award nominated director Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) walked the red carpet in Cannes this weekend for the World Premiere of animated film ‘The Prophet’, on which he was one of the directors.

Dundalk-born John Moore has been attached to direct ‘The Hunters’. The Irish director’s previous credits include action movies ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’, ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ and ’Max Payne’.

Adam Smith’s directorial debut ‘Trespass Against Us’ has had its UK rights picked up by Lionsgate. The heist film is written by Alastair Siddons and stars Irish actors Michael Fassbender, Brendan Gleeson and Killian Scott alongside Lyndsey Marshal, Rory Kinnear and Sean Harris.

‘Hill Street’ looks at the evolution of skateboarding culture in Dublin from the late 1980s up until today. The film comprises interviews with key players in both the Irish and global skate community, including legendary skater Tony Hawk, and also features rare, never-seen-before footage.
