Aisling Walsh's next film Lucia is set to star Maya Hawke as Lucia Joyce, Rhys Ifans as her father James Joyce and Eileen Walsh as Nora Barnacle, in what is described as a “psychological drama biopic” written by Michael Kinirons.

The film is set to have a Cannes market launch, with The Veterans having boarded sales.

Lucia is based on the life of Lucia Joyce, the talented but troubled daughter of James Joyce who was briefly the lover of Samuel Beckett.

The film will follow Lucia ‘as she struggles to fulfil her personal ambition to become a professional dancer, while navigating her complex relationship with her father as his muse and confidant.’

Aisling Walsh is best known for films including Song for a Raggy Boy, Maudie and Joyriders and TV Elizabeth is Missing and A Poet in New York. Michael Kinirons was writer/director of IFTA-nominated The Sparrow.

Maya Hawke, the daughter of Walsh's Maudie star Ethan Hawke, has starred in Stranger Things, Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood and Inside Out 2. Rhys Ifans is known for The Boat That Rocked, House of the Dragon and Notting Hill. Eileen Walsh was recently IFTA nominated for Small Things Like These.

Casting Director on the film is Amy Kate Dolan (The Pope’s Exorcist, Juliet and Romeo, Costiera). It has been developed and produced by John Kelleher Media and EZ Films with the support of Screen Ireland.
