Jonathan is a partner in Philip Lee and the focus of his practice is on corporate, commercial and finance work, with a particular concentration on project finance and media.

He is recognised as a leading practitioner in the area of film and television finance.

Jonathan recently advised Element Pictures on the financing and production of the multi-award winning “Room”, nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Picture. He also advised Universal Pictures and BBC Films, the primary financers of “Mrs. Brown’s Boys: D’Movie”, in connection with the financing of that feature film.

With Brian Gormley, he has advised Brown Bag in relation to the financing and production of many animated television programmes including “Peter Rabbit”, “Henry Hugglemonster” and “Doc McStuffins”.

He advised on the production and financing of “Red Rock” for commercial broadcaster TV3. This was the first new soap opera to be launched in Ireland in over 20 years. “Red Rock” is one of a number of major feature film and television projects on which he has advised Element Pictures.

Other projects with Element Pictures include the Cannes award winner “The Lobster” starring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Reilly.

Jonathan also advised the producers of “The Secret Scripture” directed by Jim Sheridan and starring Rooney Mara, Jack Reynor, Eric Bana, Theo James and Vanessa Redgrave.

The Irish Film Board is one of the firm’s longest standing media clients. Together with Brian Gormley, Jonathan is the lead partner from Philip Lee in providing advice to the Irish Film Board. Recent projects on which he advised IFB include the Oscar-nominated “Brooklyn” and John Carney’s “Sing Street”.

Jonathan has been a partner in Philip Lee since 2002. He is also a board member of the Dublin International Film Festival and of the educational charity Camara Education.
