Damian Farrell studied animation at Ballyfermot Senior College. He left mid course and began working as an assistant animator at Emerald City Productions. Following this he did time at Sullivan Bluth’s Studio working on The Pebble and the Penguin and Thumbellina.
Leaving Bluth's he set up a small animation company, Caboom, producing animation commercials and animated titles for agencies and broadcasters in Ireland and the UK.
For over 10 years he worked with Double Z Enterprises, the company behind Zig and Zag, where we worked and directed on numerous projects including The Den, for RTE and the late night adult puppet comedy series called ‘Podge & Rodge’s Scare At Bedtime’. He has also directed music videos and commercials for Dustin the Turkey.
Damian has trained at the Jim Henson Creature Shop in London and his puppeteering credits include shows for RTE, ITV and BBC including Mac Donald’s Farm, Abercrombey, Gobo & Dipps and more.
Over the years, Caboom has grown and diversified into new areas. Damian is creative director of this production company. His knowledge in animation, live action and effects work has led him to direct commercials for Guinness, Holsten Pils, O2, Vodaphone, Cadbury’s, Lucozade, Smarties, various Government departments, the ESB and many more. He has received an International Gold award for advertising for a series of animated commercials for Barry’s Tea has also recently won the O2 award for best digital design.
He has just exec produced a one hour soccer documentary entitled ‘Before The Hungarians’ for broadcast in Ireland and the UK and co-produced a short model & animation film called ‘Frozen Heart’.
He currently performs with Dave Chapman, as part of the puppet comedy duo, Tiny & Mr Duk for the BBC.
