Deadlines approaching for IADT Certificates in Radio Production and Single Camera Factual Production

The deadline is approaching for two upcoming six-week Level 9 courses at Institute of Art, Design, and Technology’s National Film School – Certificate in Radio Production and Certificate in Single Camera Factual Production.

Both courses are suitable for students who have an undergraduate qualification of 2nd Class Honours or higher at Honours Degree level. Experience of the media industries is an additional advantage.

Applicants without a Level 8 qualification may be considered provided they can demonstrate Honours Degree equivalence which can be verified through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process. Two references must support your application.

An online portfolio of your work should be submitted with your application. You may also be asked to attend an interview.

Certificate in Radio Production (Deadline: Monday, December 13th – 4pm)

Running from January 4th, participants are required to attend four days a week (Monday-Thursday) and will learn through a mixed format of online and in-person.

The aim of this course is to immerse participants in a real world newsroom, radio studio, and location production environment so that you develop your production skills and gain a significant command of technical abilities required of all forms of broadcast radio and podcasting.

This is an intensive 6-week course where participants will learn from industry professionals in the state-of-the-art facilities of the National Film School.

You will be able to create your own radio content to a professional standard for both live and online contexts. You will also be able to analyse radio journalism as a discipline, and evaluate contemporary audiences and how to reach them.

The cost of the course is €900.

Single Camera Factual Production (Deadline: Monday, December 13th – 4pm)

Running for six weeks from February 2022, participants will be required to attend four days a week.

This is an ideal course for those who want in depth, real and the industry standard practical skills required of video or mobile journalists. Learn how to produce and direct a short documentary or narrative video package to Irish and European broadcast standards.

This is an intensive 6-week course where participants will learn from active practitioners in the industry standard facilities of the National Film School.

Participants will develop the creative skills required for producing a story driven video package up to final delivery and dissemination across various platforms. These include idea research and development, storytelling, and video journalism. Technical competencies include location audio recording, lighting and single camera operation, postproduction editing and final delivery of video packages. Students produce a video project comprising a significant short documentary or a piece of video journalism.

The cost of the course is €900.

Future Careers

Professional pathways exist in the audio-visual, web and screen industries.

Graduates go onto radio, online content providers, the broadcast media, advertisement agencies, production facilities, company in house production facilities, state and civil society bodies and indeed any group involved in the creation and distribution of audio content.
