The IFTA Screen Discussion Series continues this week with an online discussion of The Breadwinner tomorrow 3pm with director Nora Twomey and producer Paul Young, with cast & crew from The Hole in the Ground, A Good Woman is Hard to Find & Calm with Horses joining over the course of the week.

Continuing tomorrow at 3 pm, the IFTA Screen Discussions series focuses on The Breadwinner, with Director Nora Twomey and Producer Paul Young. The event will take place via zoom, including audience Q&A.

The Oscar-nominated animated film, from Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon, marks the solo feature debut of director Nora Twomey. It follows the company’s previous films The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, both of which also received Oscar nominations. The Breadwinner follows Parvana, an 11-year-old girl who lives under Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2001. After the wrongful arrest of her father, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family. Working alongside a friend, she soon discovers a new world of freedom and danger. Drawing strength from the fantastical stories she invents, Parvana embarks on an epic quest to find her father and reunite her family.
