11 Jun 2019 : News Desk
National Film School
The Open Evening runs from 6pm – 8pm on Thursday 13th June and will include information on Postgraduate and Certificate courses in Film and Media at the National Film School.

The Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology (IADT) regularly host open days, giving the opportunity to visit the college and talk to lecturers, staff and students about respective courses. This Open Evening offers the perfect chance to discover the wide-ranging postgraduate and certificate courses in Film + Media available at IADT.

The National Film School provides state-of-the-art facilities for education and training in film, television and radio production, design for stage and screen, and model-making. A wide variety of courses from across IADT make use of the NFS facilities.

The NFS offers unique postgraduate courses for the Film and Media sector, delivered in the professional standard facilities at the National Film School.

The available postgraduate courses in Film and Media at the NFS include:

MA Screenwriting for Film + Television

The MA in Screenwriting is the longest running and was the first MA of its kind in the country. It employs the very best screenwriting tutors in Ireland and offers students advice and input from the very best writers/producers and directors who visit the NFS as panellists and guest speakers.

Each year, established directors are invited to workshop scenes from our Master Student’s screenplays with a group of actors – in previous years Lenny Abrahamson, Neil Jordan, Juanita Wilson, Jim Sheridan, Paddy Breathnach, Kirsten Sheridan, Ed Guiney, Neasa Hardiman and many other accomplished directors have dedicated their time and energy to these workshops.

MA Digital Broadcast Production for Radio + Television

This one-year production-centred course is for graduates of any discipline who want practical production skills in radio, online and television broadcasting, plus a deep understanding of the broadcast industry today.

Students will gain hands on experience in state-of-the-art TV and Radio studios, from lecturers who are active in the industry. This MA is designed to equip graduates for a career in modern media broadcasting, by offering a thorough practical and theoretical understanding of the modern media landscape.

MA Creative Production + Screen Finance

This programme will preach art but teach commerce, training creative and entrepreneurial producers not how to make a movie but how to get a movie made. The MA in creative production is aimed at individuals who have a strong idea for a film, documentary, drama or TV series and want to learn the intricacies of the commercial side of this creative industry.

The primary philosophy of this programme is to educate creative and entrepreneurial producers. The aim is to synthesise those elements of creativity and the business of film making so that graduates go on to become the creative producers of the future.  Delivery of the programme is in modular block form - four, two or three week blocks over a year – which will allow the student time to both develop their creative project and for other commitments.

As well as the postgraduate programmes, the NFS offers a number of professional certificate courses that aim to present professional pathways into the film and media industry for students. The professional development certificates include: Multi Camera Television; Production Management for Animation; Radio Production; Research Methods for the Creative Practices; Single Camera Factual Production; and Writing Television Drama.

Applications for all postgraduate courses and certificates are now open. The closing date is 22nd August 2019. For further information on the different postgraduates and certificates available, visit the IADT website here
