Carbonated Comet Productions & Pio Media Awarded First Limerick City and County Council Arts Office Bursary
12 Jun 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The Limerick City and County Council Arts Office has announced that Pio Media & Carbonated Comet Productions have been awarded the inaugural Limerick Short Film Bursary. ‘The Hill’ will be made by Carbonated Comet’s Ronan Cassidy who will produce the short, which is written and will be directed by Peter McNamara (‘Narcan’, ‘Day Off’).

‘The Hill’ is a powerful portrait of a struggling father’s efforts to retain his family home in the face of certain eviction, as well as his own personal frustrations and vulnerabilities.

Born in Limerick, Peter McNamara grew up in Southill and began working construction at a young age after leaving school prematurely. After a life changing experience in 2013 he decided to leave his job and return to third level education to study film-production.

Speaking about the bursary announcement and beginning production, Writer/Director Peter McNamara told IFTN:

“This is a very personal story that captures issues that I have grown up with. One thing I've learned over the years is that I don’t want to follow the headlines; otherwise, you’ll be out of date by the time the film is made. At the moment I'm working with the producer on casting and I'm really looking forward to developing this project over the coming months. The film will be shot on location in Southill and in Limerick City Centre. Thanks to the Arts Office in Limerick City and County Council for funding us.”

Producer Ronan Cassidy added:

“I am delighted that I have been given this opportunity to work with Peter again. He has written a superb script that has captured my imagination. The Hill is a powerful and beautiful drama about dignity in the face of great personal strife.”

Carbonated Comet Productions was founded by Dan Harper & Greg Burrowes in 2016. They have produced numerous brand films for online and have recently expanded into drama.
