The Irish At MIP TV

There's an eclectic selection of Irish production companies going Cannes this weekend for MIP TV, the international television market. Most of the Irish participants will be based at the Irish stand (No C1.21 in the Debussy Hall of the Palais) which is co-ordinated by Enterprise Ireland with RTE as the main exhibitor. Others, including Monster Productions and Allegro (both animation companies) will be in The Marketplace, which is located upstairs in the Main Hall.

AV Edge will be at MIP TV with 'Visions Of Democracy' a 6 part documentary series for sale. Other projects include a 13 part technology series for adult learners. Further information from Orla Byrne at the Irish Stand.

Daniel Productions originates, sources finance for and produces high end music and social hisotry documentary programmes for the global marketplace, including a development slate of feature film projects; the first release, written by Adrian Dunbar, is a thriller calles 'Stations of the Cross' and is scheduled for production in Autumn 1999. Documentary series include 'Country Milstones and War Songs', '45 RPM'. Projects in production include the history of Irish music 'From A Whisper To A Scream' and 'After a Fashion'. Eclipse Television & Video have a number of interesting projects including 'Mind To Kill' with leading US criminologist Jack Levin profiling the pyschology of murder. Eclipse also have the international rights to 'Intercept' a Russian game show (with 85 million weekly viewers) and 'Russian Kopz', a unique documentary soap. Independent Picutures' Jimmy Duggan and John Cummins will also be at MIP, and are seeking co-production opportunities for a number of international documentary series focusing on science, history and biogrpahy. Independent Pictures are also open to co-producing. They offer access to significant finance for locating in Ireland, and offer terrific locating scout services in Ireland, with over 20 years high level production experience in Ireland.

Like It Love It Entertainment is one of the largest Irish independent production companies headed by national television and radio broadcaster Andy Ruane. Specialising in creating original formats, The Lyrics Board is the most successful internationally, with current productions in Norway, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, Finland and Belgium this year through All American Fremantle International, one of the worlds largest producers of television shows. LILI specialise in the production & development of broadcast variety/light entertainment, game and quiz show formats, music, comedy and young peoples' television.

Network Ireland Television, Ireland's largest distributor, with over 500 television hours will be attending MIP TV with new documentaries, shorts, lifestyle and animation programmes, including the very popular 'Escape From Antarctica'. RTE Commercial Enterprises Ltd CEL has an extensive catalogue of prgramming available for sale, including drama, documentary, nature, wildlife, cookery and children's programming. Titles include: Glenroe (475 x 30 mins), Fair City (564 x 30 mins), Making The Cut (10 x 1 hour), Across The Line (8 x 30 mins), The Big Science (8 x 30 mins) and True Lives (7 x 1 hour).

Tyrone Productions' Patricia Carroll, Joan Egan and Pat Faulkner will be available at the Irish Stand for meetings from Tuesday to Saturday. They are bringing 'Gael Force', a 6 part series (and 90 and 80 minutes specials), plus 'Celtic Harpestry' a one off music programme, and 'Bad Bog Home Town Girl', and 52 minute documentary made for CBC in Canada.

Other attendees include Roger Greene of the Screen Commission of Ireland and myself and Michael McMahon of IFTN.
