Irish
company Parallel Films, producers of Falling for a Dancer and Amongst
Women, have been selected for competition in the International Widescreen
Film Festival 1999. Their entry, District Detective Unit, was produced
for RTE and is a sequel to last year's award winning crime series,
Making the Cut.
Structured around a
four part one-hour format the drama is set in an affluent provincial
town just outside Dublin which begins to experience a crime wave.
Parallel films are hoping for another success at the festival this
year having won a festival Nombre D'or for Best Performance with
Making the Cut at last year's event. Confidence in the cast remains
strong with Sean McKinley, Andrea Irvine and Dermot Martin remaining
in the lead roles.
Due to be held in Amsterdam
from 10-14 September, the festival celebrates the wide screen digital
format and technical excellence in all aspects of widescreen production.
The festival is held each year as part of the International Broadcasting
Convention, Europe's electronic media event which attracts 30,000
visitors from over a hundred countries.
"The international spread
of the festival this year is amazing." said Festival president Theo
Van Eupan. "We have received 100 entries from 23 countries covering
the five continents, with Sweden, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa
entering for the first time."
