Applications open for Mo Flam’s Lighting for Feature Films course
13 Apr 2023 : News Desk
Mo Flam
The course runs in Tralee from April 26th – 30th with the first two introduction days optional for advanced participants.

Kerry College Monavalley Campus & the Dawn Workshops are partnering with the Crew Academy South to host Mo Flam’s Lighting for Feature Films course.

Mo Flam (Black Swan, Spotlight) is a lighting technician with over 40 years of experience in the global film industry. This course will be segmented into two parts. The first two days will bring less experienced crew members up to a standard to appreciate the next three days, aimed at experienced crew members who want to improve their existing skills.

This course will teach advanced lighting techniques for film, looking at practical examples of lighting methods you can apply to real-world scenarios to solve more difficult lighting challenges. Through hands-on sessions, lectures, screenings and discussions, participants will explore the importance of light in visual storytelling and the techniques and processes to execute complex lighting setups. Working collaboratively as a film crew, the class takes on the creative and technical challenges of feature film cinematography, planning lighting requirements for a scene.

Kerry College Monavalley Campus is a long-time provider of industry skills training via its Broadcast Production Skills Course. The Dawn Workshops, in conjunction with Kerry College, have been running industry upskilling training over the past decade. Crew Academy South is run by Film in Limerick in collaboration with Screen Kerry. The aim of the Screen Ireland funded Crew Academies is to build the skills of the national crew base to ensure a greater volume of film production can take place throughout the country.

The course fee of €300 for 5 days / €200 for 3 days is subsidised by the Crew Academy South.
Places are limited. Apply here by 5pm on Tuesday April 18th.
