'We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story' airing on BBC2 on Tuesday, December 22nd
21 Dec 2015 : Seán Brosnan
60 minute comedy drama filmed on location in Northern Ireland earlier this year
‘We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story’ about the creators of ‘Dad’s Army’, Jimmy Perry and David Croft will air on BBC Two this Tuesday, 22nd December at 9pm. Produced by DSP, the 60 minute comedy drama filmed on location in Northern Ireland earlier this year with funding from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI.

The dramatised story of how Jimmy Perry and David Croft overcame BBC management scepticism, focus groups and cast constipation to get the much loved legend onto air stars local actor Richard Dormer (Fortitude, Game of Thrones, Good Vibrations) in the role of David Croft alongside Paul Ritter (Friday Night Dinner, The World's End, Quantum of Solace) as Jimmy Perry.

Other cast includes: John Sessions playing Arthur Lowe (Filth, Gangs of New York), Julian Sands as John Le Mesurier (The Killing Fields, The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo, A Room With a View), Mark Heap as Clive Dunn (Friday Night Dinner, Green Wing & Spaced), Shane Richie as Bill Pertwee (EastEnders), Kevin Bishop as James Beck (The Kevin Bishop Show, Whites), Keith Allen as Paul Fox (Bodies, Robin Hood, The Comic Strip Presents…), Michael Cochrane as Arnold Ridley (The Archers), Ralph Riach (Braveheart, Hamish Macbeth) plays John Laurie, Kieran Hodgson as Ian Lavender and Sally Phillips as Ann Croft (Smack The Pony, Bridget Jones' Diary, Miranda).

Emily Dalton, Managing Director of DSP commented: “As a TV producer it’s fascinating to get under the skin of how such an utterly brilliant series was created. Essentially it’s about two middle-aged blokes throwing caution to the wind to pursue their creative vision. Inspiring!”

Gregor Sharp, Commissioning Editor BBC Comedy said: “Dad's Army is the most iconic and enduring of all television sitcoms so we're thrilled to be bringing the story of how David Croft and Jimmy Perry came to create it to the screen where it's delighted audiences for so long. Stephen Russell's warm and witty script is as full of admiration and affection for the people behind the series as Dad's Army itself was for the Home Guard and has attracted an exceptional cast - we can't wait to see them in action.”

‘We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story’ is a 1 x 60' episode. It is being produced by DSP, part of Endemol Shine Group. It was commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller BBC Comedy Commissioning and Gregor Sharp, Commissioning Editor BBC Comedy. It was written by Stephen Russell (Hattie, Shameless, Coronation Street, Garrow's Law) and will be directed by Steve Bendelack (Spitting Image, the Royle Family, The League of Gentlemen).

The Executive Producers are Charlotte Surtees and Emily Dalton and the Producer is Brett Wilson at DSP. The drama was filmed in Northern Ireland and has been part funded by Northern Ireland Screen.

‘We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story’ will air on BBC Two on Tuesday, 22nd December at 9pm.
