Irish Casting Round-Up
19 Sep 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Roles for Liam Neeson, Ciarán Hinds & Sarah Greene

Neeson to star in remake of ‘Tell No One’

Liam Neeson has been connected to the upcoming remake of the French thriller ‘Tell No One’. The film is based on the original bestselling novel by Harlan Coben, and the original film adaptation was directed by Guillaume Canet.

The plotline follows a doctor who, after his wife vanishes, is at first suspected of having murdered her, but then begins to receive clues that she may in fact still be alive. Oscar-winning writer Chris Terrio (‘Argo’) is penning the script for the new project for Universal.

Other news for Liam Neeson is that earlier this week, he revealed he is working on a film script with U2’s Bono. Neeson told The Independent , “He’s got an idea for a script which we've been working on for the past six years.” The film centres around the Irish showband phenomenon in the 1970s, and it is not clear at this point if Neeson will star in the project.

The Ballymena-born actor’s many credits include ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace’, ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and ‘Taken’. He can be seen in cinemas now in ‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’.

Ciarán Hinds joins ‘Bleed For This’

Ciarán Hinds, star of ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Munich’, ‘The Road to Perdition’ and ‘The Sea’, has been cast in the upcoming movie ‘Bleed For This’. The film follows the true story of boxer Vinny Pazienza, a five-time world champion who made an incredible comeback after being involved in a car crash.

Miles Teller (‘The Spectacular Now’, ‘Divergent’) will lead the cast and play Vinny Pazienza, while Hinds will play the sportsman’s father, Angelo. Aaron Ekhart (‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Olympus has Fallen’), Amanda Clayton and Tom DeNucci will also star. Ben Younger is writer/director for the biopic.

Hinds will next be seen in ‘Agent 47’ and ‘Last Days in the Desert’. The Belfast-born actor is also appearing on stage at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre in ‘Our Few and Evil Days’ from September 26 to October 25.

Sarah Greene joins ‘Penny Dreadful’

Announced last week, Cork actress Sarah Greene has joined the cast for the second series of ‘Penny Dreadful’. The Sky Atlantic and Showtime period thriller recently began production in Ardmore Studios, Bray.

Greene’s credits include ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’, ‘Vikings’, ‘The Guard’ and‘Noble’, which is released in cinemas today. She will play Hecate, the “powerful daughter” of spiritualist Evelyn Poole (Helen McCrory). Also joining the show as a guest star is two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, who will play “a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa's (Eva Green) past.”

‘Penny Dreadful’ was renewed for a second season last June after the first season received impressive ratings. The psychological thriller looks at how some of literature's most famous characters - including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light - have become embroiled in Victorian London.
