Morgan Bushe Is Ireland’s Producer On The Move at Cannes
24 Apr 2012 : By Steve Cummins
Morgan Bushe
Irish producer Morgan Bushe of Fastnet Films has been selected to take part in the European Film Promotion’s Cannes-based programme Producers On The Move.

Bushe, whose production credits include ‘The Other Side of Sleep’, is one of 25 producers from across Europe who have been handpicked by the EFP to take part in the networking event over May 19–22. It takes place during the Cannes International Film Festival, which runs over May 16-27.

The 25 have been chosen as having previously successfully realised joint European film projects. The four-day-event will feature networking opportunities, information on producing and financing in various European countries, roundtable and one-to-one meetings, and opportunities to pitch current projects and to brainstorm on future European co-productions.

The EFP boast that more than 50 per cent of the producers that have participated in the event over the past three years are working together on 31 concrete co-productions as a result of the initiative.

Alongside Macdara Kelleher and Lance Daly, Bushe is one of the owners of Dublin based Fastnet Films, whose collection of film and documentary productions since 2009 have won six IFTA Awards from 22 nominations.

He is currently in post production on Andrew Gallimore's ‘Gentleman Prizefighter’ and Brendan Muldowney's ‘Love Eternal’ as well as financing a number of theatrical documentaries.

They include ‘Icarus3D’ with the director Joel Conroy (Waveriders); ‘The Disappearance’ with Ciaran Cassidy (Collaboration Horizontale) and ‘Born John Burke (Died Muhammad Omar)’ with Ross McDonnell (Colony). This summer he will shoot ‘DogHouse’ as part of the Irish Film Board’s Signatures scheme.

Bushe’s notable productions include ‘The Other Side of Sleep’, which was selected for Directors Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and ‘Colony’, which premiered as part of the Real to Reel section at the Toronto Film Festival. It later received the First Appearance award at IDFA.

Other credits include ‘If I Should Fall Behind’ which screened in official selection at the BFI London Film Festival and received the Bronze Torc at the Celtic Film and Television Awards; ‘Nothing Personal’ which was given six awards at the Locarno Film Festival and was nominated for two European Film Awards; ‘Silent Sonata (Circus Fantasticus)’ which received nine Slovenian Vesna Awards and was shortlisted for the European Film Awards and the Best Foreign Film Oscar, and Anton Corbijn’s ‘Inside Out’ which premiered this year at the Berlinale Film Festival.

His TV production credits include award-winning documentaries ‘In Sunshine or in Shadow’, ‘An Treaty 1921’, ‘A Bloody Canvas’, ‘Gualainn le Gualann’ and ‘Blood and Ink’.

In the past he has co-produced films with Holland, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden, the UK, Luxembourg, Belgium/Flanders, Hungary and Japan as well as overseeing productions shot across the United States, Central America and France.
